Requirements for bolting technology according to EN 1090
The requirements of the European standard can be a real challenge for many companies in the steel construction industry. Consequently, the demands on the corresponding bolting tools are very high with regard to production and especially in field use. Plarad bolting tools always meet these requirements.
With Plarad torque and tension bolting tools, the user always has durable and safe quality products in use. The latest EN, DIN or VDI standards for the various tightening methods are taken into account in our extensive Plarad product portfolio.
We have briefly summarized the most important notes on the relevant standards for you:
Whether torque method or combined method. Our broad product portfolio includes all methods to be able to handle your requirements for bolting operations in steel construction.
Tightening devices used must have an accuracy of ± 4 % according to EN ISO 6789 for all tightening steps of the torque procedure.
Each tightening device shall be maintained in accordance with EN ISO 6789; in the case of pneumatic tightening devices, the device shall be checked each time hose lengths are changed.
For tightening devices used in the first tightening step of the combined pretensioning process, these requirements apply modified to ± 10 % accuracy and annual repetitions.
The bolts must be tightened with a tightening tool that provides a suitable working range. Hand-operated or automatic torque wrenches may be used. Impact wrenches may only be used for the first tightening step for each bolt.
The tightening torque must be applied continuously and evenly.
The tightening process using the torque method consists of at least the following two steps:
1st tightening step:
The torque wrench is set to a torque of approximately 0.75 Mr.i. This first tightening step must be completed for all bolts in a joint before proceeding to the second tightening step.
2nd tightening step:
The torque wrench is set to a tightening torque of 1.10 Mr,i.
Tightening by means of combined prestressing consists of two steps:
– a first tightening step with a tightening tool that provides a suitable working range. The torque wrench is set to a tightening torque of approximately 0.75 Mr,i.
– the first tightening step must be completed for all bolts in a joint before starting the second tightening step. Unless otherwise specified, Mr,1 = 0.13 d Fp,C may be used as a simplification.
– a second tightening step in which a specified further tightening angle is applied to the turned part of the fitting.
– the position of the nut relative to the bolt thread must be marked after the 1st tightening step so that the further torque angle of the nut relative to the bolt thread can be easily determined in this second tightening step.

The new generation of electric nutrunners – the DE1 docu-plus
The DE2control impresses with its 2,655 lb-ft of concentrated power and its documentation function. It is powerful, lightweight and ensures precise and safe bolted connections. With the newly developed documentation function via WLAN, the electric nutrunner already meets the requirements of Industry 4.0 for future standards in the field of bolting documentation.
The Battery nutrunner DA2
In addition to the extensive functions of the DA2power, the DA2docu saves the bolting results incl. location and sends them via WLAN to a smart device.
The patented joint ensures a 360° rotatable drive without detent steps. Thanks to the high-performance charger, the battery can be fully charged in less than 30 minutes.
